Very often people are concerned to contact lawyers for fear that they will receive a bill.
You will never receive a bill from me without having entered into a written agreement which makes it very clear that you will be charged – how much, on what basis and when.
I am always happy to discuss informally the possibility of my taking a case.
It is always difficult to estimate fees which will vary according to factors which include:
- the amount of documentation
- the complexity of the law/facts
- the amount of time likely to be spent by me on the case
- the value of the relevant assets
Usually I will ask you to send me some preliminary information that I can review prior to providing you with a detailed cost quotation. In the great majority of cases, I will be able to quote a fixed fee rather than an hourly rate.
Here are some typical cost ranges for my services:
- A written Opinion on a specific legal question(s), between €1,500 to €4,000.
- A wider ranging piece of work, usually involving more extensive documentation (eg a submission in an An Bord Pleanála appeal), typically between €4,500 and €6,500.
- Representation on an An Bord Pleanála Oral Hearing, between €4,000 and €10,000 (depending very much upon subject matter, amount of documentation and complexity).
- A one hour bespoke presentation on a Planning Law subject (including preparation), approximately €1,000, subject to the size and nature of the audience.
Not all work will fit with the examples given above which are for guidance only. The best way forward is that you contact me so that we can discuss the matter.
